Prof. Salah Hashem is invited to Participate in the Second International Migration Review Forum

Professor Dr. Salah Hashem- Dean of Faculty of SocialWork, Fayoum University Professor of Planning & Development , Founder of the Egyptian Federation for Development and Social Protection Policies & Chair of Strategic Forum for Public Policies and Development Studies “DRAYA”, is invited by the United Nations, under the auspices of the General Assembly and chaired by the President of the General Assembly, to participate in the Second International Migration Review Forum which will take place from 5th till 8th May 2026 at UN Headquarters in New York.
During the Forum, four interactive multi-stakeholder roundtables brought together Member States, internationaal organizations, civil society, and other relevant actors will hold to exchange experiences and discuss challenges in implementing the Global Compact for Migration. In addition discussed Policies and present technical summaries from the roundtabl.
The last to days of forum are dedicated to plenary meetings, allowing participants to review progress, share lessons learned, and identify next steps for safe, orderly, and regular migration in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
His Excellency is scheduled to participate with a speech in a multilateral hearing for concerned partners on current migration policies, in which he will highlight developments in the combat illegal migration, as well as the Egyptian initiatives taken in this regard, the role of the state and civil society organizations in integrating migrants and refugees and providing them with decent living conditions, and his vision on ways to activate international and regional partnerships and innovative practices to achieve the goals of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration in line with the Sustainable Development Goals 2030, especially in light of the suffering of the Middle East region from the ravages of wars that have resulted in the migration of thousands from their countries in search of safe haven.

Un was recalling its resolution No. 71/1 of 19 September 2016, in which it decided to convene an intergovernmental conference to adopt a global compact for safe, orderly and regular migration, which held in Morocco on 10th of Dec. 2018 and adopted Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration under title “Marrakesh Compact on Migration” .
This Global Compact aimed to establish non-legally binding, cooperative framework that builds on the commitments agreed upon by Member States in the New York Declaration for Refugees and Migrants (2016). It fosters international cooperation among all relevant actors on migration, acknowledging that no State can address migration alone, and upholds the sovereignty of States and their obligations under international law
To follow-up the progress made at the local, national, regional and global levels in implementing the Global Compact for Safe , Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM) in the framework of the United Nations, UN Member States adopted the resolution of General Assembly No. 73/195 on 19 Dec.2018 to establish International Migration Review Forum To serve as an alternative to the high-level dialogue on international migration and development ,the which shall take place every four years beginning in 2022 and serve as the primary intergovernmental global platform for Member States to discuss and share progress on the implementation of all aspects of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration, including as it relates to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The First Forum would take place in New York on May 2022.
